TRACEY'S DIARY - Texas
Buddhism may seem incongruous with pave diamonds, but my friends Mads and Mikkel Kornerup, (they're brothers from Copenhagen), have harmoniously blended the spiritual and the opulent in a line called "Shamballa Jewels."

I first met Mads on the amazing trip I took to India for that week-long wedding...you can read about it, (if you haven't already), in earlier diary pages. Our paths were destined, as we bonded immediately...first with the jewels, then with our spirits....I was drawn to his energy and knew this was a special individual, that I am honored now to call my friend and brother. When he visited L.A. over the summer, I introduced him to friends Linda Caan, Jamie Tisch and Amber Valetta, who went crazy for his "enlightened baubles" and I promised him the next time he was came to the West Coast, Linda and I would host an event in his honor...We got so excited, that we also planned to kidnap him (and his jewels!) and travel to Forth Worth to introduce him to our friend the fabulous Janie Beggs and her girls.... Unfortunately, Linda fell ill and couldn't make the trip, but that didn't stop us.... we couldn't disappoint them Texas gals...you know how they love their jewels.

Mads had never been to Texas, so it was destined to be a whirlwind - 36 hours in all. Janie really showed us the town...she is to Fort Worth what the Ewings were to "Dallas"....She took us to the Kimball Museum, a classic yet modern building designed by the great American architect Louis I. Kahn, where they were playing jazz and museum guests sipped champagne wandering the galleries of Rothkos, Ruscha, Motherwell - the list goes on.... From there, Jamie grand-toured us the town and included a fascinating history lesson to boot (cowboy boot, that is!). We went to the "local" part of town for a bite to eat at "The Lonesome Dove," then drove through the streets to view all the spectacular holiday lights...The Texans take their Christmas lights very seriously, let me tell you! The next morning we rose for a day of champagne and shopping, as Janie hosted a viewing of Mads' fabulous collection....The Ft. Worth girls went wild over the artful naturalism of the pieces...cultured pearls, emeralds, sapphires, rubies and, of course, diamonds inspired by authentic Buddhist prayer beads.

"Although the pieces are extremely precious," noted Helena Christensen, a collector, "they have a touch of something raw and simple, almost organic." And, I may add... magical......Namaste, Y'all...
